Caribou Hunting Lodges

Caribou hunting lodges in Canada and Alaska are generally of high quality. Outfitters offer luxurious accommodations in remote wilderness areas often north of the treeline in both Canada and Alaska.

The demands of caribou hunting often requires a great deal of walking. You may spot your game literally miles away and have to walk to stalk it. A nice, clean and comfortable hunting lodge to coil up in makes for a nice period of relaxation after a long day hunting. Fortunately most lodge owners are hunters themselves and realize the benefits of providing the best in hunting accommodations.

To ensure that hunters are not over exerted, most caribou hunting outfitters provide spike camps. These makeshift camps are rustic but provide basic shelter to caribou hunters and guides usually a few miles from main hunting lodge. Expect only the basic essentials of life at these outpost lodges. Often these camps are constructed with a cotton tent erected on a wooden platform. These type hunting camps are common in Alaska and also in Quebec and Labrador, Canada.

In Newfoundland, outfitters provide good quality hunting lodges as well. However, since the woodland caribou is not as migratory as it's sister barrenground, caribou hunting outfitters can provide a more stable lodging for their hunting guest. Spike camps are still often used but usually of wooden structure.
